So I was talking with Will about various ways I could get Grelle out and killing without running the risk of so vilifying her as to make her hard to play in social situations when, more or less completely tangentially during the discussion, I stumbled on a post idea I think could be a lot of fun! But I also worry that if not handled right it could end up being squicky so I wanted to get something up on the network to get folks’ input if I’ve got enough qualifiers on it.
The basic idea is: In one self-contained post (so not really an ‘event’ in the standard sense -- just a brief post-only effect) some individuals just find their inhibitions turned way down. :’) They do what they want!! All those reasons why something may be a bad IDEA to do like they want ... well, that little voice in the back of their head is REAL quiet today.
So now, the qualifiers, because yeah, that could end up being kind of “uhhh...” depending on the character type...
1) This isn’t a personality-changing thing! If someone WOULD NEVER do something, they still won’t WANT to do it. It’s just that if someone really WANTS TO DO SOMETHING and keeps telling themselves ‘Oh, I really shouldn’t’, that “OH I shouldn’t” is now dialed down to a 1. Nobody will be acting ENTIRELY out of character -- there’s just an overall sense of “OH FUCK IT WHY NOT 8)”
2) In contrast, The Rules are dialed up to 11. The Rules are, in fact, trigger-happy. Because this is camp and the characters really can’t enjoy themselves anywhere near as much as they’d like.
3) If any content is likely to be squicky -- for example, Grelle would be there to shank you, hit on you, or hit on you while shanking you -- then the player should put a warning both in the header and in the body of the initial comment (or when the thread starts to turn that way) so both people who might jump and people who might read will be forewarned and forearmed. Example: SUBJECT: ITT: Shanking Sekuhara. OOC NOTE: ((Grelle is an uber-flirty Shankasaurus Rex; if you jump you will probably get hit on, killed, or both.))
4) Characters will be aware that a camp effect is in play (due to a banner reading “HAPPY LOWERED INHIBITIONS DAY”) and, as well as this, when it wears off they will be quite aware that something external was acting on them. This should help avoid blaming each other in unfun ways for stealing each other’s puddings or putting dye in their shampoo (among other things, of course) as everyone -- whether affected or not -- would be aware they were kind of under the influence of camp at the time.
5) You can lower the inhibitions as much or as little as you find enjoyable. FOR EXAMPLE:
weed_it_n_reap: But I wouldn't know how to play Will. WHAT IS WILL WITH REDUCED INHIBITIONS...
thebutlersawed: That is the day he doesn't do his paperwork and feels the freedom of being a rebel.
weed_it_n_reap: HAHA he loosens his tie. Just an inch.
thebutlersawed: My god, maybe his shirt is untucked.
weed_it_n_reap: GASP
thebutlersawed: He sleeps in until 9!!
weed_it_n_reap: WILD AND CRAZY
So -- y/n/still too potentially squicky-?

If you're mostly looking to balance having NICE THREADS and SLASHDASHWHIPLASHYOULOSTYOURHEAD THREADS then just ask your shankees if they are up for not being gossips about it or choose your shankees with an ooc mind in how they will react etc.

Wanna go serial kill people in the cornfields? We can hide and jump out giggling and shout "SURPRISE" and then hack them to pieces.

That said, it's probably also going to be useful for people who have no real inhibitions anyway, and can play around. :')

Seriously this sounds good and as long as warnings are clear and people keep in touch it shouldn't be a problem.
