Basically, although Grelle would gladly hop on the sex-with-Hatter wagon at the soonest opportunity, it's... more than that. She'd like to see Hatter's... sharp-edged side. She'd like to see what happens when Hatter starts to get a bit brutal, whether it's with her or with someone else. Basically, she'd like to get inside that velvet glove and feel the talons underneath, whether that's in bed or on the battlefield or in some otherwise unknown situation.
This is even more heightened BY the fact that Grelle and Hatter made out -- Grelle may have joked about tying together lust and wrath but it's not really a joke for her. This is someone who headbutts Sebastian hard enough to draw blood and refers to it as a "kiss". It's not even that she gets off on violence (though she does), it's that brutality is an act of lust, and lust is an act of violence for her. It goes beyond sadomasochism to, like ...idek. Crossed wires sounds like it's confused. This is just her paradigm of the universe. But yeah, she's also aware she might not see brutality through violence either, with Hatter! Demons have their own way of doing things. She just knows she wants to see it.
What part of Grelle does Hatter find actually intriguing, instead of ...rote?

boyfriendrival. They are both vulgar and straightforwardly brutal and sexual and obviously get off on violence. And so he is pretty interested in her, particularly after knowing she was only acting useless in the game proper. ...The part he does actually dislike is that she claims to be female. Justin has very little respect for women, and so the fact that Grelle wants to be one isn't ever going to be something other than a subject for mockery to Justin. Even more so when he sees her as strong and interesting thus clearly (to him) un-feminine.Tellll me... more things about Kuroshitsuji. What does Grelle do for work precisely?

Hatter is sort of intrigued by Grelle in a couple of ways. It's not all just Hatter's act with everyone--but a lot of it is, because that's how Hatter rolls. Dealing with Grelle's enthusiasm is actually a little... tedious, sometimes. At the same time, Hatter does honestly want to cultivate Grelle's interest for a couple of reasons. Hatter does, in fact, have some curiosity about Grelle's gender. It's not really driving, but it's there, and xe wouldn't mind finding out more about that.
Hatter's also very interested in Grelle's powers, and how well they might be contained, and whether or not Hatter can direct them if a purpose arises. With the right direction, Hatter is pretty sure Grelle could be useful, and that's generally something worth exploring.
The other thing is sort of borderline, and a little harder to explain, and it relates to an answer I gave in my meme that Hatter's interest in Grelle was mostly just for fun.
It's basically that Hatter has an interest in how Grelle can fit into hir normal scripts for sex/headgames. Grelle is sort of fresh, and that makes it appealing to find a place for hir in those, and Hatter is still deciding just what the most appropriate role is. It's like how Hatter, with hir angel lovers forever and ever ago, would let them get all wrapped up in hir and then kill themselves, or get arrested, or discover each other, or... various other things, I imagine. Particularly since Grelle seems inclined to push and be the pursuer, to a degree, Hatter becomes inclined to make hirself... um. If you'll ignore the internet meme, into a trap. In the sense that xe'll make hirself into something dangerous that Grelle will get hurt by taking the bait, to see how xe'll react. And whatever that leads to, well, that's part of the game.
And Hatter's patient enough that xe's not in a rush to make that happen right now. Xe'll wait until xe figures out the right script for the right game, for the best results.
So... how well does this end? XD

Sure! Grelle's a Grim Reaper (or "Shinigami", naturally), which is in Kuroshitsuji described as a being "almost like a God" who stands in rank between God and humanity. Reapers seem to be alive, rather than dead souls the way you see in a lot of shows; they have to eat, sleep, etc, but they're not of interest to demons (no human soul) and they're basically unkillable. (I say basically because Sebastian theorizes that if he cuts into Grelle with her own deathscythe she'll probably die). As you saw in endgame this doesn't make them un-beat-into-a-pulp-able haha sob. The Reapers are gathered in an agent-type 'dispatch organization' which has a standard business bureaucracy; for example, we know Will is middle management of some kind, and Grelle's just an officer, but one with some seniority (another dispatch officer, Ronald, refers to her as "Senpai/Upperclassman" in conversation with Will).
What Reapers do is go to places where people are going to die based off their official schedule, watch their "Cinematic Record" (or the flashback of their recent/important life moments flashing before their eyes) and, if they are the rare individual dubbed worthy to survive, guarantee they do so; more likely, they're just normal humans and the Reapers will then use their Deathscythe to gather their souls and return to ... wherever it is they've come from. (The reason Grelle has a demon-fetish and Will has a demon hate-on is that demons, of course, steal souls, so that puts a big kink in the whole machine).
What we know about Reapers isn't much more than that, though I am completely sure that when the current manga arc is over, either next arc or the one after -- soon, anyway -- is going to have more Reapers because the mangaka set it up in the Circus arc.
What we know about GRELLE and what Grelle does "for work" is that she was on earth to gather a victim of a murder of a prostitute committed by a woman known in social circles as Madam Red, got SO EXCITED by Madam Red that she couldn't contain herself, confronted her personally, draped all over her and promised to help her, and then posed (in disguise, see icon) as her hapless butler as they committed more grotesque murders together. (Their work was what came to be known as Jack the Ripper). Eventually, obviously, this ended (lol spoilers how though) and although Will showed up to "save" Grelle, Will was none too pleased by Grelle's compulsive rule-breaking and walked on her a bit before hauling her off by her hair for disciplinary action. We know she's back to work as of at LEAST the Circus arc, though. *g*

Grelle loves a good drama. And she does consider it romantic, like she told Tyki! A good romantic possessiveness, like in the operas and plays, kyaa! But mostly it's obvious that depending how this goes it's going to be a hell of a show and she wants to be in front row with popcorn.
Does Ash know about Tyki's feelings of possessiveness? How does he feel about it?
no subject
Y N
but really, I'd say Grelle is intrigued by Haruki. Physically, he's right up her alley, but he's also cool, calm, even-minded, and capable of beating a man to death by punching him in the face until he's unrecognizable. And he dies prettily too. The ideal lover! Obviously, she doesn't know the first thing about him, but in the game when he showed that he understood, at least from a third person perspective, how she views the world -- that was extremely exciting for her! To an extent, Grelle is looking for people she could genuinely relate to (though her standards are exacting and if anyone falls below them, er, lol...) and it was like the cherry on the sundae.
What does Haruki ACTUALLY think about Grelle?
no subject
At first, Haruki is weirded out by the contact and whatnot because he is a stiff unemotional coldfish kind of guy! However, as he kept talking to Grelle, he started to get more of a "feel" on what kind of person Grelle is, and he was ... curious. He also sees Grelle somewhat as an opportunity because Haruki is always looking for people to sort of "bend" to his will (a very subtle sort of control, like the kind he exerts with Kazuki and Ruka). He wasn't lying in their interactions! He did find Grelle to be fanciful and romantic, with the ability to emotionally connive someone as well as intelligent! So Haruki respects Grelle a great deal due to the game! But that won't stop him from trying to figure Grelle out and manipulating her. Grelle would be one of the few people Haruki would allow physical touchings both ways because it clearly fuels her passions.
Wow that was a lot. Which two of my characters should meet yours someday!
no subject
How well does this end? Well... that depends on how you view "well". Grelle is, in a sense, too overbearing, stupid, and enthusiastic to trap. Grelle's logic, you see, makes everything work out for Grelle even when it obviously doesn't go her way. It's not that she rewrites reality for herself, exactly, but close enough! Grelle might have been crying and begging for her life when Sebastian got the upper hand in the battle between them in the manga, but we know from her interview that once that immediacy was over? What a thrill! How erotic that he stepped all over me like that! It gets me so fired up! We only went half-way, Sebaschan, but next time, let's go ALL the way!
Because, well, Grelle is remarkably difficult to hurt. The closest we ever really come to seeing her have her feelings hurt is ...disappointment, and that doesn't really count as being genuinely hurt. Because Grelle has no interest in being hurt! She's a very simple person, in a lot of ways, and she's actually probably my character with the thickest skin -- insults of any variety just roll of her. Sebaschan goes for the emotional throat with her a lot and although she'll reproach him for it, she just likes him more for that tendency, and that overpowers any hurt that might have caused the reproach.
So Grelle will almost certainly TRIGGER that trap if Hatter can find a good one to set up for her, but whether she'll react hurt -- it's hard to say, because Grelle never lets herself feel hurt for more than the instant it happens.
If you mean the rest of it, Grelle will totally let intriguing people use her powers without hesitation, haha, and is also totally happy to talk about her gender if asked. Or often if unasked too.
Does Hatter have any opinion yet of what kind of trap xe'd like to make hirself for Grelle?

...Belatedly, I feel I should warn for Soul Eater spoilers in all of Justin's question answers. This has particularly major ones though!
So, Justin has always worked on his own in the sense that he has never fought with a wielder. This is unusual both because it means he is extremely powerful - most weapons in Soul Eater are pretty useless in a fight without a partner, while Justin made Deathscythe at 13 alone - and because a lot of the point of attending Shibusen and working for Shinigami is learning about respect and teamwork. The only other weapon we know of who fights alone is Giriko, who is as I mentioned above crazy and homicidal, and never worked for Shinigami to begin with.
DESPITE THIS, no one seems particularly concerned about Justin's mental state, even in the face of the big bad (the kishin) being released and driving everyone in the world slowly insane, because of Justin's deep religious devotion. This is a mistake, as it turns out his deep religious devotion is to the big bad who is driving everyone in the world slowly insane. :'D Oops. Anyway, Justin murders a Shibusen internal affairs agent whose soul perception skills were getting good enough that he might have been able to find the kishin (who is currently in hiding), and eventually the good guys figure out he did it and Justin has to go on the run.
He is still not really "on his own," though - he is just currently on Team Evil, which consists of Justin, a Clown (an avatar of insanity that guides him), Giriko (who Justin picked up :3), and two other guys. Their goals are to kill Maka Albarn, whose soul perception skills are also getting dangerous, find the kishin before Shibusen does, and possibly something more wide-scale and sinister too idek canon is still coming out.
Basically what it means is that Justin was only working for Shinigami as a means to an end and as a spy to start with, and now he is showing his true crazy colors. But in a focused way.
I have read your gender/sexuality essay post, but I would totally be interested in hearing you talk more about how Grelle views women as a whole!

Will has occurred to hir, but at the moment, xe's more focused on getting him to the point he'll kiss back under the mistletoe, so waiting for him to be ready for something like that might take too long.
So let's say Grelle got to see Hatter's life, and finds out that it's like thousands of years, and disproportionately death, sex, war, emotional abuse, scheming and rape. Would it live up to Grelle's hopes? Is it the popcorn movie of the summer?

In other news, tell me about how Grelle feels about people who refer to Grelle as a girl?
no subject
WHO COMES OUT ALIVE.
1/2 lol
God, Grelle and women. Okay. Obviously I want to start this that she self-identifies female; from her opinion, she views being a woman as a perfectly admirable thing to be and something she is, body aside. However, her standards are... absurd, like I said. Grelle has no patience for what she perceives as flaws among women and picks and chooses what stereotypes are ‘flaws’ quite liberally. She totally sympathizes with Madam Red’s pain over being unable to bear children and appreciates that Madam Red expresses this rage through murder; these traits make her declare that she loves Madam Red. And she shows her appreciation by joining her and helping her out by loaning her powers. Yet (spoilers spoilers) the moment Madam Red can’t kill someone -- her own nephew, Ciel -- Grelle loses patience with her and kills her. And then when she sees Madam Red’s cinematic record (in which the inability to have children takes a big backseat to her sense of sentimentality; how she’s looking for vengeance on a world where the man she loved could marry the sister she loved, where she’d have to settle for a man she didn’t love but liked and lose that too, where her sister and the man she loved could die) Grelle has nothing but disgust for her. Which seems odd because Grelle LOVES romance! She LOVES drama and of course she herself talks about wanting to get married and have a stereotypical relationship! But for Grelle, none of this can ever take a back seat to the violent drive. Even then, Grelle’s fine with the fact that Madam Red was acting violent out of a sense of being denied these (so-called) ‘typical’ female desires; it’s not as ideal as acting that way alongside it, but she was aware of that up front. But the fact that these desires -- that ultimately, Madam Red couldn’t push herself to destroy the last vestige of these people she loved (Ciel, their child, who she viewed like the child she couldn’t have)... THAT’S what disgusted Grelle. And Grelle couched that in the terms of ‘not knowing you were such a pathetic, stereotypical woman’ and considering it a ‘cheap drama’. Because once the ‘feminine desires’ hamper someone from committing violence, she considers them, well, unworthy of her standards.
I mentioned before that Grelle logic always works FOR Grelle. Recently in a thread with Tyki she climbed in through the window, and Tyki was like “That’s not very ladylike,” and Grelle answered with, “Of course it’s ladylike. I just did it!”. Grelle will gladly redefine a ‘proper’ lady to her standards, and that includes being, well, of the “female of the species is more deadly than the male” variety. A good woman, in her mind, is clad in blood red and dyed in the blood of others; she’s a poisonous snake who’s welcome to as many feminine desires and feminine wiles as she wants, but if she lets any of these hold her back, then she’s ugly, stupid, useless, and a discredit to the sex.
Which of course is HORRIBLY MISOGYNISTIC! But Grelle doesn’t see it that way, partially because Grelle is psychotic.
It’s hard to say if Grelle would view weak-willed (or men with traits she’d percieve as weak-willed, more likely; Madam Red was anything but weak-willed) men similarly because we never see her dealing with any of them. The only people we have seen her interacting onscreen with are Will, Sebastian, Ciel (who she considers a dismissable child), and Madam Red. Technically speaking, she’s also in the same scenes as Lau and Ranmao but this is when she’s playing meek butler and always hovering in the background -- there’s no honest exchange ‘as she really is’. But I think that she would judge men less harshly, partially because she -- through her own extremely biased lens (and given her internalized misogyny it’s even more biased, in a way) -- views them as the lesser sex, so she wouldn’t hold them to such exacting standards. And partially because even if she thinks that way, she also tends to view men as the ‘intriguing other’ and doesn’t react as if she’s trying to identify with them.
2/2
But she still wants. Her relationship with Madam Red is, I believe, sexual (she does, after all, say she’s doing it all “because she fell in love with a woman”) -- but at the same time it’s written up-front as being about her identifying with Madam Red. The key image is of her draping on Madam Red (who is numb and kneeling over the corpse of a woman she just murdered), cuddling her, and agreeing, “Yes, yes, I know, I can’t have children either, because men suck.” Her passion for Madam Red falls into that archetyped theory of homosexuality where lesbians are drawn by seeing the ‘same’ in each other. It’s a combination of attraction to traits and *identification* with traits. (I mentioned this before and that I personally don’t buy the theory by itself, but it looks to me like it’s something being played with here).
And the other side of this is that there are many, many, many women she can’t identify with, and this is disappointing, and disgruntling, and dissatisfying, and makes them ugly bitches! Again, misogyny. She refers to the murders she does as “making over those ugly whores”. She sees nothing worth identifying with in these prostitutes and so she both violences them and dismisses them. I don’t want to go into the psychological theories actually used in the Jack the Ripper murders, as in this universe it was primarily Grelle acting on Madam Red’s behest and/or in tandem, and the emphasis is not on the sexual element of the victims but of the childless outrage reflected in the uterus removal. But the fact that she refers TO the prostitutes like this still gives insight into her viewpoint. (In contrast, Ciel humanizes them as victims -- he makes a grave for Madam Red and Grelle’s last victim, and lays flowers on it, because he views her as a woman he could have chosen to save and instead prioritized catching the killer. Where Grelle and Madam Red -- who, frankly, are kind of both monsters, let’s face it; they’re Jack the Ripper -- dehumanize their victims, Ciel humanizes her even after sacrificing her. So it’s not something the manga itself is, hmm, buying into? She’s human. She’s worth a grave, she’s worth flowers, and she was worth saving and that’s why Ciel is pained about the scenario.)
Obviously she’s not going to kill every woman who disgusts her -- the killings she DOES commit outside her work are all structured into Madam Red’s choices, and ultimately Madam Red herself for letting her down personally. She’s got perfect control and ability to choose her victims where she sees fit. But, you know, if she’s got the opportunity and no reason NOT to, she’s still going to be very tempted.
Anyway, tl;dr but basically comes down to “Grelle identifies female, wants to be physically female, and puts ‘female’ as a state of being on a pedestal, but in order to relate that back to herself, any woman who doesn’t match her personality isn’t worthy of the pedestal and is discrediting her views of womanhood. Men aren’t worth as much to her personally, and she’s got no reason to try to see herself in them, so she’s much more tolerant of their flaws.”
IIRC I've harrassed Raven with Grelle before. How does he feel about that
no subject
no subject
Mostly Raven feels awkward! So, Raven is really close with Naoto, which means he's been trying to learn more and be more understanding about gender identity being flexible, so when Grelle was like "I'm a woman really!" Raven's reaction was "...Okay! She's a woman! Yes! I can do this!" Of course, how Raven deals with women is... flirting! Especially dangerous women. So he did that!
But the thing about Raven's flirting is that it is not meant to win people over, it is meant to put people off. Even normally, it throws him when people react positively to it. So he had no idea what to do with Grelle responding in kind. So he was SUPER AWKWARD and pretty relieved when telling Grelle that he didn't really like fighting disappointed her.

WHICH CHARACTERS OF OURS NEED TO THREAD MORE?

To start with, I don't think Grelle's a virgin! I do think that's one way people could read it, since she does refer to herself as a "maiden" a few times ("The face is a maiden's treasure", etc) but I'm pretty sure that's Grelle playing up the "a beautiful young girl" side of maiden, not the virgin side. The way she approaches sexuality strikes me more as someone who's tried it, liked it, and wants MORE PLEASE rather than someone who's interested in trying it but hasn't yet. There's a lot of weight of awareness behind her sexual aggression, so I assume that at some point in her life Grelle has actually managed to get off with someone. Because of, uh, BEING GRELLE, I don't think she gets sex OFTEN, read, more than once in a blue moon, but that doesn't stop her from actively pursuing it.
NOW, THE SEX ACT.
Obviously there are some ...complications! With sex and Grelle in that Grelle will want to be approached as a woman during sex, but is very biologically male. But I think this is a disparity that Grelle, at least, is down with. Although we know she's not FOND of her body as it is, we also know she works it, and we know she feels like a sexy person. I think we see hints that Grelle is perfectly willing to sexual innuendo in a way that refers to the fact she has a penis, though, to be fair, only through proxies ("Don't say that. I'm sure you'll become addicted to the taste of my deathscythe!" - and, ok, a chainsaw is a phallic weapon, the phallic element is sort of there). Obviously, she'd rather have a female body of her own to play with, but if nothing else, Grelle is able to work with what she's got, and confidently. The way Grelle approaches life makes me pretty confident that she will be un-self-conscious about stripping down and demanding you lick her toes and take her "with all the passion men and women can afford" or something like that and, herself, just brushing past the fact her body is male.
That said, where a lot of the hitch comes in is with other people! It's not that anyone would be 'trapped' by Grelle -- Grelle just doesn't pass as biologically female, so there'd be no, you know, penis surprise; if someone is about to get far enough with Grelle to actually get in bed with her, it'd be more surprising if they didn't know she was biologically male, just like it'd be surprising if they hadn't heard that she identified female. I can't really imagine a scenario where this would happen! So the hitch isn't anything like that, but I can potentially see one if they a) approach Grelle as a man in bed. B) will come later.
Because, here's the thing, during sex with Grelle, she is going to want to be romanced. Dramatically! She is going to want to be told she is ~~~beautiful~~~ and, yeah, if someone is going to get her naked and be able to call her a lovely lady or something she might explode in stars and hearts or something.
But of course, with sex, there's always the question of what exactly are you doing together, and that's where some of the awkwardness is going to come in, because, yeah, well, Grelle does have a penis. And Grelle intends to get off! And all this can be dealt with in a brush-aside way if someone is creative enough, but there IS going to be awkwardness and probably discomfort all around.
no subject
Basically, any sex that will really, really go the way Grelle most wants, and fit most with her sense of identity, and avoid triggering any discomfort issues with her body, would be someone who can handle her sexual aggression and still treat her like a lady, both emotionally and physically. And, for the record, this applies to whether she'd be sleeping with a man or a woman -- keeping in mind that either sex is going to approach gender roles in bed slightly different as a default.
I assume all sex Grelle has had has NOT gone this way, btw. And I assume Grelle enjoyed some of the basic physical pleasure anyway, but is not giving up her dreaaaam of really good sex that isn't, well, weird*.
* from Grelle's perspective of Will.
I have to run to work so let me know if there's anything further to fill out and I will do so >D Oh, yeah, just one more note on sex: Oral with Grelle is probably not a great idea. I mean. SHE'D be into it. But would her partner? I mean. Look at her teeth.
ETA: I guess I should expand on the additional complication of her being a sado-masochist at some point too huh. WHEN I AM HOME.
Also, Grelle or Ash/Angela, Fuck or die. Expand on details.

Of course you can! \o/
Ps you should tell me more about him and his canon. :B
no subject
In the list of people who are too tacky to live, Ashgela would place definitively above Grelle, from what I've seen of hir! Obviously I've only seen like two episodes of the anime. But Sebastian's really only willing to put up with angels or what he considers bad taste in the interest of getting something from it, and Ashgela is enough like him that sie doesn't have a lot of obvious emotional vunerabilities. What buttons sie does have don't get interesting reactions when pushed, because just freaking the fuck out is boring. Sie wants in his pants for really tacky reasons. So Ashgela is just thoroughly a useless existence, while Grelle might have the potential to be kind of useful sometime, and at least her reaction to having her face stomped on is kind of fun. GRELLE WOULD LIVE AND ASHGELA WOULD DIE.
If Sebastian was forced into sex with Grelle, the way it'd go would depend on his mood! He might just get things over with fast and hard with a great deal of disgust at the fact that Grelle was enjoying it, if he were impatient and not feeling very playful. But I think he's also capable of putting aside his distaste enough to make sure Grelle was in heaven right till the end, when he'd like. WALK AWAY RIGHT BEFORE SHE CAME AND MAKE HER FINISH HERSELF OFF AND SAY HE WAS TOO SICK OF TOUCHING SOMETHING SO UGLY TO CONTINUE. And then go polish furniture or something. Best lay.
