Grelle's pages from the character guide
Jul. 4th, 2010 07:20 pmOh yeah, I keep forgetting to post these! Here are Grelle's pages from the official Kuroshitsuji Character Guide.
A few notes up front:
- Scanlators are Spacecat, Juunana, and Ann_chan from the bleachasylum boards. All credit goes to them!
- A note on gender prounouns! As I mentioned before, to the best of my understanding, Japanese doesn't reaaaaally make use of third-person gender pronouns (there's kare/kanojo, but I believe those are mostly used in translation or in reference to boyfriend/girlfriend?). More information is here. Instead, Japanese tends to the character's name or indirect references such as "that person". To the best of my knowledge (though I may have missed something) and looking over the Japanese scans, this is the case here and the only time gendered terms are used are feminine (lady, actress, heroine, etc). The scanlators left these gendered terms feminine, as they were in Japanese, but obviously chose, where gendered pronouns were needed for the linguistic flow to work in the English translation, to add in the male pronoun. I don't mean this as a criticism of their choice of pronouns, but given my earlier commentary on Grelle's gender identity, I did want to mention that I'm fairly certain these gendered pronouns simply weren't in the original text.
- The pages weren't flipped, so in the cases that columns etc exist, the right side of the page is intended to be read first.
